Recherche actuelle

Je développe deux recherches depuis 2013.

1.– International political activism: the case of environmentalism through contemporary history

The intention of this research is to develop a theoretical approach on international political activism, taking as a case study environmentalism through contemporary history. International political activism denotes a global political phenomenon with historical interactions between social actors from different countries, which are developing because of the attractiveness of different audiences with the advent of the political culture of electronic media communication. There are different types of political activism. The common focus is to bring about real change in society, to persuade governments and to create alternatives for corporate change, or even to change people's behavior directly. Recent, but already iconic, examples of political activism of denunciation and awareness are those of 2011, of Julian Assange and Edward Snowden on government and corporate espionage. In this and in other cases, international political activism occupies and precedes the place of social movements (OGIEN and LAUGIER: 2014).

One of the purposes of this research is to shed light on the impact of global environmental activism on the international scene and on the theory of international relations, from its earliest years and in terms of current challenges. The central question assumes a real problem to think on a methodology of conceptual analysis and on the historical domain between the actions of global environmental activism and international relationships. To illustrate, one focus to study it, is the most expressive characteristic of international environmental activism: the production of counter-expertise. I propose the concept of demonstrative intelligence (ROSENTAL, 2011) to exemplify the expertise of the greens in mobilizing controversial issues on the domains of nature and on the social networks. From my previous research, I ask myself here: what is global environmental activism? My main hypothesis is that it is the most intelligent public demonstration of structuring international relations throughout contemporary history, but I need more research time to prove it.

In this research proposal, global environmental activism is comprehended as a language supported by scientific evidence, which makes it possible to contradict with the very nature of creation and the process of scientific innovation. I intend to point to a body of evidences about the structuring impact of environmental activism on the world stage and in the theory of international relations. My hypothesis is also that activism has been changing its way of expressing itself both in the domain of natural controversial issues and of dramaturgical communication due to the political culture of Internet. In both cases, a language that is much more like a way of life (in the sense of Wittgenstein) has prevailed, which absorbs the practices of agroecology, the defense of territories and their populations with practices of sustainable development. In the same time, the defense of the transition energy is translated by a more sophisticated language of counter expertise as opposed to polluting companies in terms of demonstrative intelligence to prove the impacts of climate change. In this sense, in the social networks of the internet the green language is a language of videos denunciation, testimony, theatrical performances and spectacles, and adoption of intelligent ideas that mobilize social actors, creating a global democratic culture of political participation and resistance to capitalist domination.
